On Sunday, we lost Matt's Grandpa Halling.
I didn't have the privilege of knowing him as long or as well as most of the rest of the family, but I loved him as if her were my grandpa. He lived a long life, and, while we're sad he's gone and we'll miss him terribly, we're happy to know that he is again with his sweet wife, his son, parents, and siblings.
I feel lucky to have known him, and so lucky to be a part of this family. Upon hearing the news that he might not survive the weekend, all of his grandchildren, and all but a handful of his great grandchildren came to see him.
Sunday night, after he was taken away to the funeral home, we went to Matt's mom and dad's house. Soon Brandon's family and Jared & Sarah come up. Everyone hugged, and ended up in the living room reminiscing and telling stories about Grandpa. Nobody ever said "lets talk about grandpa," or "lets all go sit together in the living room." Everyone just did it. It was so precious to witness and to listen to. I can't think of a better way to cope with losing such a treasured family member.

:( Sunday was a hard day, but it was nice to see all of the people that love him so much to come and see him. I'm glad and grateful that you added the link to his obituary, I am definately going to save it. Thanks!!! :)
we're so sorry to hear of your loss. it sounds like he left behind a great legacy and his family has some good memories with him.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I read the obituary and he sounds like an amazing man and hard worker. I'm happy that there are family members close by to spend time reminiscing about good times :)
That's so sad. I didn't know Grandpa Halling (obviously), but I loved hearing about him and seeing pictures on your blog. We'll be thinking about you guys.
What a sweet post and a special way to honor him. I'm sorry for your loss.
